15 Athletes Who Have Aged Horribly
Some people are blessed with good genes and are able to age gracefully. Other people are not so lucky and end up looking older than what they really are. This holds true even for professional athletes. Athletes on a professional level try their best to keep their body in the best shape, but no one can beat father time. Some athletes look more defeat than others. There are many factors as too why the people on this list aged badly. A wild lifestyle full of drugs and alcohol, bad genes, stress, or bad karma all play a role in the aging process and it has effected some more than other.
Larry Bird Larry Bird is a NBA legend. He is easily a top 10 player in NBA history. He also did not age very well at all. During the end of his career he began to have back problems, which causes him to move like a human snail. Larry now resembles a bird, more like some kind of freakish buzzard that sits quietly in the stands while his Pacers come up short time and time again.
Patrick Ewing Patrick Ewing was a dominant center in the league for a strong decade. His knees becoming useless is what caused him to stop playing basketball. Some people say being a professional athlete is stressful, but it is obvious that coaching on a professional level will put some years on you. Once Ewing’s coaching career got started, it he aged at an accelerated rate. It’s safe to say father time has not been kind.
Brett Favre Brett Favre’s youthful, good-old-boy enthusiasm on the field has given way to looking like your granddad trying too hard. Favre had one of the longest careers in the NFL as a quarterback. We wondered would he eventually throw in the towel. It seems that ever since he retired old age settled in pretty aggressively. Favre looks like the life has been sucked out of him.
Sam Cassell Sam Cassell was always one of the ugliest players in the NBA, even in his youth. He may or may not be an alien. He’s ridiculously tall, lanky and has a bald head. That sounds like the typical characteristics of an extra terrestrial. As Sam Cassell gotten older he has also gotten uglier. He’s been the butt of so many jokes during his career. Some people say he looks like ET, Gollum from Lord of the Rings, and Sloth from the Goonies.
Ronaldo Luís Nazário de Lima Ronaldo Luís Nazário de Lima was known as “the phenomenon” when he played for Brazil’s national soccer team in the 90’s. He helped Brazil win the 2002 FIFA World Cup. Ronaldo became noticeably bigger and slower since his glory days. Although much larger than he used to be, Ronaldo has hinted at a comeback. He has been working to lose weight, but no has been able to beat time.
O.J. Simpson O.J. was once on top of the world. He was a prominent running back in the NFL, but most people don’t remember that about him. O.J. Simpson is better known for being on trial for the murders of his wife Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman. Being accused of murder and tried is stressful and it will show. Simpson was acquitted, but years later was arrested on arm robbery and kidnapping charges. He now is serving time in a Nevada prison and looks horrible. He has gotten fat, looks like he losing his mind.
Greg Oden Greg Oden just has an old face. He’s someone that you can’t imagine how he looked when they were younger. His face looks like an old piece of leather. Oden always looks like he’s sad even when he smiles. He might actually be really sad considering his career has been defined by injuries. He only spent seven years in the NBA. He currently plays over seas, but is expected to attempt an NBA comeback during the 2016-17 season. I think he better off resting those weary bones.
Jason Giambi Jason Giambi and his career benefited greatly from the inflated numbers and inflated bodies of professional baseball’s steroids era. Giambi was one of the early ones to come out and show some level of remorse for pumping testosterone into his body for the benefit of increasing his production and bank account. The side affects of taking steroids is looking like hell when you get older. Giambi is 44 years old but has the face of a 55 year old. He has a scruffy, grey beard and he is still big from all the steroids he took. Giambi announced his retirement in February of this year, which was about time. I don’t think he could have lasted any longer.
Sammy Sosa Who knows what race Sammy Sosa is anymore after pictures surfaced of him looking significantly lighter than what we were used to. Sosa was a force during the home run record chase of 1998 when he battled fellow steroid-abuser Mark McGwire for the chance to top Roger Maris’ single season home run record. Sosa finished the season with four home runs less than McGuire. Sosa has denied his use of steroids time and time again and has also denied that he bleached or used any chemical to lighten his skin. So that means he just turned super ugly as he gets older. I’d hate to have those genes.
Tonya Harding Along with Nancy Kerrigan in the early 90’s, Tonya Harding was a symbol of the dominance and elegance of US Women’s skating. Though she looked graceful on the ice, she had an ugly personality. She was involved in the attempt to ruin America’s Sweetheart, Nancy Kerrigan’s, career by injuring her leg. Harding left the ice skating world and became a boxer. It’s safe to say that boxing was not kind to her face. She now looks like a woman who has had a had life. Her ugliness may be due to karma.
Bruce Jenner Here is an interesting story. Bruce Jenner was an Olympic athlete who won the gold medal for decathlon at the 1976 Montreal Summer Olympics. He later ended up married to his now ex-wife Kris Kardashian. Over the years Bruce turned from a young strapping athlete to an older man, who had some plastic surgery done. He didn’t stop there. Bruce recently made the transition from man to woman. She now goes by the name, Caitlyn, but even she is still ugly.
Steve Francis Steve Francis was drafted into the NBA as the second overall pick in 1999. He played for the Houston Rockets, Orlando Magic and the New York Knicks. He was know for his ball handling skills and flashy dunks. Steve Francis left the NBA in 2008 and played in China for only four games before coming back to the United States. Once a good looking guy, but Steve Francis and the aging process aren’t getting along well. It may be due to Ménière’s disease, which he suffers from.
Pete Rose Pete Rose was never a knight in shinning armor, and aging hasn’t help at all. Rose also known as Charlie Hustle has had a successful career, but with major bumps in the road. He won three World Series rings, an NL MVP title and made 17 all-star game appearances but he matched his achievements with controversy and poor decisions. Rose was banned from major league baseball after allegations that he bet on his own team surfaced. He also had some tax evasion issues, a prison sentence, and two divorces. That’s more than enough to make you look really old.
Dennis Rodman Dennis Rodman was just as good of a basketball player as he is weird. He stood out everywhere he went with his colorful hair and piercings. He is known for his off court antics like wearing a wedding dress to marry himself. Rodman had a serious drinking problem and has been to rehab to get help. The alcohol and wild lifestyle is catching up with him, but that’s not stopping him. He partied non-stop for two and a half months for his 50th birthday.
John Daly John Daly was one of the most eccentric golf players to ever play the sport. Daly is not a country club golfer. He has earned the nick name “Wild Thing” after several incidents on the golf course, one time even being physically violent. Daly was known for his drinking and smoking cigarettes in the middle of a match. Two big reasons why he doesn’t look good now. Gambling was something else that accelerated the aging process for him. Daly has spent $50- $60 million dollars over the past 15 year, just on gambling.
