Not even that could stop Serena from playing the game she loves. She had this to say about her return to the court. “I realized that I’m really fortunate to be alive and to be playing, and that it’s not the end of the world if I don’t win. I was able to relax. It was the first time I’ve ever had so much fun on the court. I would play matches and enjoy myself. That brought a whole new perspective to my game. Now I know I don’t have to play again if I don’t want to. I play because I love it.”

First Woman Since ’88 to Win the First Three Legs of the Grand Slam  Winning the Australian, French and Wimbledon had only been done twice before by Margaret Court in 1970 and Steffi Graf in 1988. Each time, both women went on to win the Grand Slam. Serene is now the third woman to win the first three legs of the a Grand Slam. Serena has a lot of Grand Slams under her belt already but this run is pushing her to have the best major tennis season in the history of the sport. She Has Never Been Beaten Twice By Someone Not Related To Her Serena’s Wimbledon record is now 73-10. That’s one more win than the Chicago Bull’s 1995-96 record. Serena’s 10 losses are to nine different women. The only person of that 10 to beat her twice is her sister Venus. Serena has experienced a lost in every round at Wimbledon, with the exception of the first round. Of the 10 losses, six have come to players ranked worse than her, though not necessarily seeded worse. For instance, Serena was ranked No. 25 when she lost to No. 9 Marion Bartoli in 2011.

On Track For Most Consecutive Weeks At No. 1 Serena Williams has been the number one ranked female tennis player before she has also been ranked as low and number 25 before. Currently she is back in the number one spot and has been there for quite some time now. If she can remain in the number one spot for another year she will have the record for most consecutive weeks at number one. Steffi Graf is the current leader with 186 weeks. It’s hard to imagine anyone coming up and dethroning Serena, but in the world of sports anything can happen. Still, I would bet Serena gets that record too.

Serena Was Once Ranked No. 1 In Singles And Doubles At The Same Time.  It is an amazing feat to be number one in two events in one sport in the same year. It came during nine glorious weeks in the summer of 2010. Serena and Venus were playing in the doubles together and won Wimbledon in 2009 through the French Open 2010. Only seven women have done that before, just two with longer streaks than Serena’s nine weeks.
